During his keynote address in Mumbai, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella underscored the significant potential of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in fueling economic growth in India. He emphasized the tangible benefits that well-known Indian brands are experiencing through the adoption of AI technologies, citing Microsoft's Copilot as an example of an AI tool designed to empower organizations and individuals.
In a recent statement, Nadella emphasized, "You can only talk about tech as a real thing if it is going to have a real impact on the overall growth of an economy. Definitely today this is the highest growth market. You can see the buoyancy of it. The government and all of you have high ambitions of what's going to happen by 2025 and what percentage of that growth is going to be driven by AI".
Nadella drew parallels between the current technological advancements and the Industrial Revolution. During his speech, he shared an interesting statistic. "In the United Kingdom, during the height of the Industrial Revolution, they spent 10% of GDP on the railroad system and the rest is history. When you have a new general-purpose technology, how intensely you invest and deploy cross-sectorally inside an economy, I think, makes a difference to a country's prospects going forward".
Nadella conveyed his enthusiasm for being at the initial phase of AI adoption, expressing the intention to swiftly expand its scope. His remarks underscored AI's transformative potential for economies and stressed the significance of investing in this technology to foster future growth. With India's GDP projected to hit $500 billion by 2025, the pivotal role of AI in catalyzing this expansion cannot be emphasized enough. As an increasing number of Indian brands embrace AI solutions like Copilot, the nation is positioned to emerge as a frontrunner in AI-powered economic development on a global scale.
